hope

every morning the dull groan of my alarm tugs me through miles of unconsciousness
till my dull heart thuds awake. another morning.
I long to curl into the quilted terrain of forgetfulness.
but the sun has risen and will not reset.
and in that moment of routine remorse I face a choice.
as the tender whispers of rest siren me, I speak.
"you have a choice. just because you're tired doesn't mean that you must be grumpy.
you have a choice. you can be cheerful."

  1. This is great Katie, summed up my morning... Well, except I do curl over and prolong the inevitable.
